Help Afghan Girls & Women Rise

Beyond the Taliban’s Shadow

The Taliban’s 2021 return plunged Afghanistan into an oppressive era, stripping women and girls of basic rights, from banning education to restricting everyday freedoms. With little global support, despair grew. Amid this, The Zaanha Fund stepped in, offering Afghan women and girls education, livelihoods, and hope through programs like AFCECO homes, private schooling, and projects empowering resilience, such as The Sweater Project.

Our Initiatives

The Zaanha Fund is a U.S.-based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization supports children and young women in war-affected regions such as Afghanistan where systemic barriers deny them access to education and employment. And as refugees face limited opportunities to rebuild their futures. Reflecting its name, Zaanha—which means “women” in Farsi—the organization focuses on empowering women and advocating for their rights to learn, grow, and thrive.

All donations to The Zaanha Fund are tax-deductible and directly support our three transformative initiatives: AFCECO, Shokofa, and The Sweater Project.

Shokofa supports refugee girls who have fled the Taliban’s gender apartheid regime in pursuit of happiness and access to the education.
The Sweater Project provides hand-knitted sweaters to children in need, crafted by women. Your donation warms a child and helps a woman earn a living.
For over 20 years, AFCECO has run orphanages in Afghanistan, providing thousands of Afghan children with safe havens and access to quality education.

In Pursuit of Happiness & a Brighter Future!

The Zaanha Fund is currently supporting over 50 Afghan refugee girls who have fled the Taliban’s oppressive regime in pursuit of education, freedom, and the hope of a brighter future. These girls reside in safe and nurturing homes outside the country. To ensure they receive a high-quality education, they are enrolled in private international schools, preparing them for higher education opportunities at other countries.
